The Secret to Great Teamwork
Do you sometimes struggle to work effectively with others? We all do. It can sometimes be tough especially when they refuse to cooperate or offer you the support you need. But when they do, the end result is nothing short of amazing. I understand that we are wired differently… and with our different experiences, every one of us tends to sometimes want to impose, if not, want others to adopt their way of doing things. But this shouldn’t be the case. Teamwork should be a tool for achieving any common goal.
While alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. None of us is as smart as all of us. Just like the human body has different body parts with different functions, you too need several people with different capabilities to progress both in your personal, career, social and even professional life. The trick is to understand the different individuals, appreciate them and learn how they operate, and who knows, you will be surprised at the magic of collaboration.
To do this, first build trust which is the foundation of any solid relationship by overcoming your need to do it all and not show any weakness. Be open with people, talk about almost anything, but make sure to maintain the boundaries. Share objectives and communicate effectively every now and then and this will help you stay connected. Also, focus on their strengths by maximizing the different individual’s capabilities as this encourages participation.
Lastly, people like to be recognized, doing this and rewarding them where its due motivates them to work even harder. This doesn’t mean you spend too much on them, but a genuine thank you, nice try, well done does magic. It’s all about embracing these little principles that will definitely see you improve performance and most importantly compel others to attain uncommon results.
